Moscow Street Tries Itself As a River For a While

That is how Malomoskovskaya street, which is situated near the very center of Moscow, looked like today. Huge water pipe made a decision to bring diversity to the neighbourhood. At 5 a.m., having cracked, it flooded several neighbouring streets with water and sand.

Accident site immediately gathered few dozens of service trucks, police cars and  local authority. “It is none of an everyday work to fix such pipes”,- indicated with excitement guys in overalls and hard hats. Apparently they remained too long without real work and were happy to have an opportunity to deal with such a case.
The only thing to be done was to turn off the valve at the point from where the water in this pipe (900 mm in diameter) came from. Meanwhile everybody were staying around and observing the majestic scene.

After a while water was cut off and workers dug a hole at the site of water inrush.
Hero of the occasion. Black triangle in the center is the hole from which the water was “leaking”.
The very pump which had pumped out the water.
Pump from the other side. It is believed to be very reliable while extremely heavy.
Pit with the pump became the smoking area for accident fighters. From time to time some authority representative would go down and smoke, examining the pipe hole. In Soviet films one could hear the saying: “Smoking means meditating.”
This summer this street was happy to have new asphalt laid.
The real heroes of emergency service. Their work was well co-ordinated, the inrush was fixed rapidly, everybody acted quick and organized. The city can sleep sound having such rescuers..
