The police create dacoits in Chambal: Paan Singh Tomar's son

His father's name once spelt terror and respect in Chambal, where death comes as a whistling bullet, or in the form of crocodiles teeming in the local river.

But Souram Singh Tomar — son of Paan Singh Tomar who  has inspired the popular movie of the same name — doesn't go back there after his father's death for fear of being killed by his father's old enemies or the police. Instead, Souram Singh, a 53-year-old retired Army subedar, lives with his 75-year-old mother and his family at Babina in Jhansi district.

Paan Singh was an armyman and an international award-winning athlete who became a dacoit (locals prefer the term 'baagi' or rebel) after alleged oppression and violence against his family. The movie on him was made by director Tigmanshu Dhulia with Irrfan in the lead role.

Skydreamers: History of Flight Exhibition in Los Angeles

The fantasies and realities of flight and space exploration, as depicted through art and photography in the West and around the world, went on display in the Autry National Center’s new 'Skydreamers' exhibition in Griffith Park, Los Angeles. The exhibit focuses on the history of flight as seen through the eyes of photographers and artists throughout the years. More than 150 items are on display, including rare original high-quality photographs, as well as works on paper, paintings, posters, and memorabilia drawn primarily from the extensive collection of flight and space material in the Stephen White collection. The exhibition will run from April 29 through August 21, 2011.

Monowi: The Town With Population of One

Monowi is a village in Nebraska, United States, whose only remaining resident is a 77-year old woman named Elsie Eiler. Eiler lives in a mobile home a half-block from the only business left in Monowi, a dark, wood-paneled tavern, thick with smoke  which Eiler runs. Roter Sand Lighthouse Turned Hotel in Germany

Described by some as the “loneliest hotel in Germany,” the Roter Sand lighthouse, some 30 miles off the coast of Bremerhaven, Lower Saxony, has been welcoming guests for over 10 years. But the lighthouse itself is 125 years old.

The Roter Sand was built in 1885, and was considered a technical marvel at that time as it was the first ever structure built on the sea floor at a depth of 22 metres. For almost 80 years the red, white and black lighthouse was the first thing sailors saw on their way into the port city, and the last thing millions of emigrants saw before their ships reached the North Sea on their journey to the New World. But by 1964 its steel foundations became unstable and the lighthouse was decommissioned.

Sydney, Apr 17' 2011 (ANI): A new book by a Cambridge University physicist claims that Jesus Christ's last supper - the final meal that he shared with his 12 Apostles in Jerusalem before his crucifixion - is commemorated a day late.

Prof Colin Humphreys, who was knighted last year for his contribution to science, argues that the last supper Jesus Christ shared occurred on Wednesday, April 1, AD33, rather than on a Thursday as traditionally celebrated in most Christian churches, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

Protestors Take to Streets in Toronto 'Slut Walk'

Would you walk down the street with a sign saying “I’m a slut”? Well, these women did.

More than 1000 women hit the streets Sunday afternoon in Toronto, Canada, in what they call a “slut walk" in response to a controversial comment made by a police constable earlier this year.

In January, Toronto Police Const. Michael Sanguinetti told a personal security class at York University that "women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized." Sanguinetti apologized for his comments, but apparently his apology was not enough to calm down the offended women. 

Women gathered at Queen’s Park, many holding colorful signs with bold statements condemning victimizing woman, such as “No one asks to be assaulted,” or “Rape is not a compliment.”  Many male supporters attended as well.

“Whatever we wear, wherever we go, yes means yes and no means no,” the crowded chanted as they walked toward Toronto Police headquarters, condemning the idea that the way a woman dresses puts her at risk of sexual violence.
