Roter Sand Lighthouse Turned Hotel in Germany

Described by some as the “loneliest hotel in Germany,” the Roter Sand lighthouse, some 30 miles off the coast of Bremerhaven, Lower Saxony, has been welcoming guests for over 10 years. But the lighthouse itself is 125 years old.

The Roter Sand was built in 1885, and was considered a technical marvel at that time as it was the first ever structure built on the sea floor at a depth of 22 metres. For almost 80 years the red, white and black lighthouse was the first thing sailors saw on their way into the port city, and the last thing millions of emigrants saw before their ships reached the North Sea on their journey to the New World. But by 1964 its steel foundations became unstable and the lighthouse was decommissioned.

Le Truc: Restaurant on Bus

San Frfancisco chef Hugh Schick has transformed a originally yellow school bus into a mobile kitchen and eatery he calls Le Truc. The new “bustaurant” has a gourmet kitchen, skylights and indoor seating for up to 12 and serves locally sourced, seasonal menus.


The Le Truc bus opened Tuesday, serving up savory sandwiches made with ingredients like grilled Portobello mushrooms, grilled duck breast with a reduction of dried cherry and ground-chicken meatballs. Currently, Le Truc’s operators are lobbying to serve alcohol for food/beer pairings. They also plan to set up for dinner in a second location a few blocks away near San Francisco’s South Park neighborhood.

The world oldest hotel, builT in 717, is in the Awazu Onsen area of Komatsu, in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan.

Hoshi is a ryokan (Japanese traditional inn) in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. Founded in 717, it is the world's oldest hotel still in operation according to the Guinness World Records and the world's oldest continuously operating company after the liquidation of Kongo Gumi in 2006.

This Themed Park Located on Odaiba Island, Hello Kitty Kawaii Paradise opened on October 22nd, and hopes to attract as many as 700,000 Hello Kitty fans in its first year. While the despicable icon has tons of fans in Japan’s capital, not many of them bothered to check out the theme park, probably because Odaiba is quite a long way from central Tokyo, and many of them don’t care to make the long trip. Let’s just hope the place stays empty and they’ll be forced to close it down soon, because unless you’re the Pink Lady, human eyesight just can’t handle all that pink.

In case you’re interested, the 10,000 square-foot park features a big Hello Kitty shop, where you can find all kinds of accessories, toys and other pink junk, a Hello Kitty pancake restaurant, a small theater, a big statue of Hello Kitty and a whole bunch of other pink, girly stuff fans go crazy about.

The World's Spookiest Restaurant T'Spookhuys Known also as the “House of 1,000 Ghosts”, the T’Spookhuys Restaurant was designed to scare the hell out of its customers, with a truly creepy interior design and bizarre menu.

Located in the city of Turnhout, Belgium, T’Spookhuys was founded by Karl Hendrix and Bjorn Leys, as a place where people could experience the horrors of a haunted mansion. When it opened its gates to the public, on October 1st 1997, it shocked pretty much everyone with its creepy interior decorations, squeaky doors, smoke coming down from the ceiling, moving paintings, and other special effects. Soon everyone wanted to “dine in hell” and witness the weird spectacles and cameos that took part at the T’Spookhuys Restaurant.

In the dining room of the Hotel de Sal Playa in Bolivia, the salt is always on the table. In fact, at the world's only hotel made of salt, the salt is the table.

Located near the famous Uyuni salt mine in the southwestern part of the country, Hotel de Sal Playa's roof, and bar are built of salt. Even the floor is covered with salt granules.

The hotel was built in 1993 by a salt artisan who saw a mint in the number of tourists looking for places to stay while visiting the nearby mine, which is one of the world's largest of its kind.

The lodge has 15 bedrooms, a dining room, a living room and a bar.

The hotel walls are made of salt blocks stuck together with a cement-like substance made of salt and water. During rainy seasons, the walls are strengthened with new blocks, while the owners ask the guests to avoid licking the walls to prevent deterioration.

World’s Largest Pink Margarita Guinness Record set by Ricardo’s Mexican Restaurant

 Ricardo's Mexican Restaurant and ROSANGEL™ Tequila broke the Guinness World Record for "World's Biggest Pink Margarita" today.  In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, ROSANGEL™, the world's premier hibiscus-infused tequila, gave the margarita a pink hue.  A portion of the event's proceeds benefitted Susan G. Komen for the Cure® of Southern Nevada.

Ricardo's and ROSANGEL's new Guinness World Record for the "World's Largest Pink Margarita" was certified at 7,627 gallons, surpassing the previous record of 7,039 gallons.  To break this record Ricardo's used a 14 ft. tall 10 ft. wide tank, 4,600 liters of ROSANGEL Tequila (1,215 gallons), 5,000 gallons of spring water, 750 quarts of Kelly Y Gonzalez lime juice, 750 gallons of La Paz Sweet and Sour, 1,500 liters of triple sec (396 gallons), and 20 pounds of salt.  This record-breaking libation will make a total of 81,355 -12 oz. pink infused margaritas.
