In Chicago's Pioneer Court, there was 26ft (8 m) tall statue of Marilyn Monroe. The author captures the composition her iconic 'wind from the subway' pose, the most famous scene from the movie 'Seven years of Desire', after which the Hollywood actress became known as the $ex symbol of the era.

Largest Wooden Sculpture in the World

The power of a wood structure is defined in a striking new edifice. A wood canopy of six "parasols" has been erected in Seville, Spain. Completed last month, it was designed by Berlin architect J. Mayer H., with timber construction by Finnforest-Merk GmbH, Aichach. Metropol Parasol, is it is formally known, is built of 3,400 wooden parts, is over 90 feet tall almost 500 feet long.

The structure is made of  interlocking pieces of wood  held together mostly with glue and with metal clamps. Costing an estimated 130 million Euros and built over the course of five years, the structure is designed as an urban icon to draw attention to Seville, and reclaim an underutilized urban area. Restaurants and shops are embedded in the towers and below the canopy. A view walkway crowns the top. Architect Mayer designed it as an entry in a competition in 2004. Mayer describes it:

 The Metropol Parasol scheme with its impressive timber structures offers an archaeological museum, a farmers market, an elevated plaza, multiple bars and restaurants underneath and inside the parasols, as well as a panorama terrace on the very top of the parasols. Realized as one of the largest and most innovative bonded timber-constructions with a polyurethane coating, the parasols grow out of the archaeological excavation site into a contemporary landmark, defining a unique relationship between the historical and the contemporary city.

World Tallest Jesue Statue in Poland set World Record

The controversial effigy stands at 33m (108ft), one metre for every year that Jesus lived, according to creator Reverend Sylwester Zawadzki.

With its gold crown, the white landmark is 36m (118ft) tall, and if the mound it stands on is also taken into account, it measures 51m (167ft).

Brazil's famous Christ the Redeemer statue, the previous record holder, stands at 39.6m (130ft).

Mr Zawadzki, 78, the local priest in Swiebodzin, about 40 miles from the German border, said: "I have never been as happy as I am today.

"This is the culmination of my life's work as a priest. I felt inspired to fulfil Jesus' will, and today I give thanks to him for allowing me to fulfil his will."

Monumite - Amazing Stone Sculpture unveiled

The 6ft-tall white monument, dubbed the “Monumite” took 71 hours to carve and is part of the company’s spoof political Love/Hate it campaign.

Its makers said the 80cm “lid” will “provide seating for children as well as being a platform for adults at public events” at its home in Burton-upon-Trent, Staff, where Marmite is produced.

But just like the product’s catch line “You’ll either love it or hate it”, there was a mixed reaction.
Ian Tennant, 36, from Burton-on-Trent, said: "I know Burton is the home of Marmite but the statue is just a bit pointless.

"It's too small and doesn't even say Marmite on it - and it's miles away from the Marmite factory itself.”

World Tallest Statue coming up in in Gujarat India

While the United States had been gifted the Statue of Liberty by France to commemorate the 200th year of its founding, Gujarat will go one up on the French by gifting a mammoth Statue of Unity to the country.

Chief minister Narendra Modi announced the creation of a 182 m tall statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, which will be the world's tallest statue.

The statue will be called Statue of Unity and will be placed at Sadhu Bet, an island located 3 km away from the Sardar Sarovar Dam in the riverbed of Narmada. Incidentally, the Statue of Liberty is 93 m tall.

The CM made this announcement on the eve of the beginning its his 10th year as the Gujarat chief minister. He referred to this ambitious structure as yet another gift to the country after projects like the Mahatma Mandir convention hall at Gandhinagar and memorial of Shyamji Krushna Varma at Mandvi, Kachchh.
