Largest Barefoot Walk Guinness World Record set by Student of Palamuru University India

The National Service Scheme (NSS) cell of Palamuru University broke the existing Guinness World Record for the ‘largest barefoot walk'.

The event took place at 7.01 a.m. on Friday at the university campus in which over 2,500 people in various age groups participated, according to NSS programme coordinator of Vangeepuram Sreenatha Chary.

The existing Guinness record involving 1,141 participants was held by Infinitus Company Ltd, China.

One-km

All the walkers walked a pre-measured distance of one km within the clearly marked lanes on the campus.

Within two hours after the event began, the NSS cell, created the new record.

Four distinctions

Dr. Chary said Palamuru University achieved four distinctions with this record. PU became the first university in the country to create a Guinness record. Secondly in the entire history of India's NSS activities this was the first of its kind record.

The varsity's NSS cell achieved the eligibility to become a permanent member with the Guinness records and Dr. Chary became the first Indian to take an NSS activity into the Guinness Book of World Records.

Earlier, he held a Guinness record for the ‘Largest Title of a Book' namely ‘Handy Crystals' A.Varaprasad Reddy, Chairman of Holy Mary Group of Institutions, Hyderabad was the chief guest while K.Venkata Chalam, Registrar, PU, was guest of honour.

 K. Rajendran, assistant programme adviser, NSS, Hyderabad, G. Bhaskara Rao, State liaison officer, NSS Hyderabad and G. Manoja, Principal, University PG College, were the panel members who judged the event.

The programme coordinator informed that the event received an overwhelming response and the Guinness authorities would ratify the world record and send the certificate to the university soon.
